The Death of @TweetBomb

Rip_tweetbomblogo

Sunday became a sad day when the horrible news came across the internet. Tweetbomb was suspended from Twitter, for of all things, being "anti-social". In an immediate response, @Tweetban was created to try and rally the bomber's behind the cause and get Twitter to over-rule their decision. (If you don't know about Tweetbomb, you can read an article one its victims wrote here.)

We have survived 4 days since the suspension, and we are all doing OK, but the afternoons sure are not the same. Each hour of each day that goes by our hope diminishes, it doesn't look like its coming back. With that being said, I think that anyone who participated can agree it was fun while it lasted!

I guess there is no better time than now to fill everyone in on the REAL history of @Tweetbomb, who was behind it, and how it came to being.

Tweetbomb spoiler after the break.

The Creators
Tweetbomb was created by:
Ryan Goff -@Ryanatmghwom
Ryan Deal - @Rdeal1
Rusty Walters (myself) - @RussWalters

The History
It all started as an office prank. I would send @rdeal1 (pre-cursor to current tweetbomb)  messages on a regular basis. Then Ryan joined in, and we successfully frustrated Deal. This spawned the idea among us, to Tweetbomb users out of the office. I think everyone can see where its going from here.

I hate to dissapoint, but there was no motivation behind the Tweetbomb other than just having a little bit of fun each afternoon.

The Death
Apparently, we were not entirely playing by the Twitter rules. We were told we were abusing the @REPLY feature of Twitter. Fair enough, I think we can all agree, that the way we were utilizing the @REPLY was not how it is meant to be used, but If people ONLY used things as they were meant - where would that leave us? Well, we sure wouldn't have Viagra, thats for sure.

So, thank you to everyone for playing along and to everyone who talked and blogged about our little project!

There are more fun Twitter projects in the works, so keep your eyes open. If you don't already, you may want to follow @Ryanatmghwom, @Rdeal1, and @RussWalters - we may have some inside info.
